Keshav S. Nair is an Associate Attorney at CD Law who is dedicated to protecting tenants and advocating for individuals facing difficult legal challenges. His experience in criminal defense, civil litigation, and housing rights makes him a valuable member of our team.
For Keshav, the opportunity to advocate for everyday people is beyond legal work– it provides him personal purpose.
“Joining a team that helps regular people is exciting for me,” Keshav said. “I look forward to contributing to CD Law’s strong record of fighting for people and getting results.”
That commitment has guided Keshav throughout his legal career.
Before joining CD Law, he built a successful background in criminal defense, civil litigation, and housing advocacy. These experiences shaped the attorney he is today.
Keshav began his career in public defense and constitutional rights work. He completed multiple internships with the Public Defender’s Office in San Diego County.
He later launched his career with the Federal Defenders of San Diego. There, he gained extensive courtroom experience handling constitutional motions and federal felony jury trials.
Keshav later transitioned into civil defense litigation, representing medical professionals in malpractice cases, licensing matters, and class action lawsuits. That experience gave him an inside look at how insurance companies evaluate claims and prepare for litigation.
Despite the valuable experience, Keshav knew that his long-term calling was representing people directly.
“I’ve always been committed to the principles of public service,” Keshav said. “I saw how the law can guide people through difficult situations.”
That desire to make a meaningful impact led Keshav to housing rights work.
He worked with the Legal Aid Society of San Diego. Later, he joined the Homeless Advocacy Project of the Bar Association of San Francisco.
In these roles, he helped tenants remain safely housed. He also connected vulnerable individuals with support services that promoted long-term stability.
Today at CD Law, Keshav focuses on habitability litigation – fighting for tenants who are forced to live in dangerous or substandard conditions.
Habitability cases often involve serious issues that directly impact a tenant’s health and safety, including mold, pest infestations, water intrusion, broken plumbing, unsafe electrical conditions, and other hazards that landlords fail to repair. California law requires landlords to provide renters with safe and livable housing, and when they refuse to address the dangerous conditions, tenants have legal rights and protections available to them.
For Keshav, this work is connected to the people behind each case.
“When tenants are forced to endure awful conditions that put them and their families at risk, the landlord has a duty under the law to fix those issues,” said Keshav. “However, when landlords refuse to maintain a habitable home and refuse to fix the issues, tenants need someone who can fight for them and assert their rights to make sure that they don’t live in hazardous, substandard, slum housing.”
Keshav’s ability to advocate in high-pressure environments stems from years in courtrooms across California, including first-chairing the first federal jury trial in California during the COVID-19 pandemic. Beyond litigation experience, he says the human side of life continues to motivate his work.
“Spending time with my family, my friends, and the people (and dogs) I love reminds me that at our core, we all want to feel safe and happy with the ones we love, and that gives me the fire to fight for my clients who want that same thing in their lives,” Keshav said.
Outside the office, Keshav is deeply invested in teaching trial advocacy to lawyers, law students, and undergraduate mock trial teams. A proud Los Angeles native born on Sunset Boulevard, he’s also a devoted Dodgers, Galaxy, and Manchester United fan – and is always searching for the best slice of pizza.
We’re excited to welcome Keshav to the CD Law team and look forward to the passion, experience, and dedication he brings to our clients and community.
