Welcome Luis Inocente

Custodio & Dubey is excited to announce the addition of Luis Inocente to our prestigious legal team! Luis Inocente is a leading habitability lawyer, dedicated to advocating for tenants’ rights throughout California, with a passion for ensuring safe living conditions for all.

Luis’s commitment to the law was ignited by a vivid and unsettling childhood memory—a cockroach crawling into his ear while he slept. This traumatic event marked the beginning of his resolve to fight for those enduring similar challenges.

Before joining Custodio & Dubey LLP, Luis spent nearly a decade at a premier California tenants’ rights law firm, where he honed his expertise in habitability issues. His early career also included significant work with non-profit organizations defending tenants from eviction.

Luis attended UCLA on a full ride through the Gates Millenium Scholarship and Hispanic Scholarship Fund, and attended Glendale University College of Law at night while working full-time at a prominent tenants’ rights law firm during the day. Luis’s deep-rooted connection to his Zapotec culture and his personal experiences fuel his passion for his field.

“Custodio & Dubey is the right choice! I’m already evaluating a serious habitability case in my first week,” says Luis.

We’re excited to see the impact Luis will make as he achieves outstanding results for our clients here at Custodio & Dubey!

What Is Habitability Law?

Landlords are required by law to provide a safe, habitable environment that includes functional utilities, structural safety, and sanitary conditions. A habitability lawyer specializes in tenants’ rights by ensuring that rental properties meet these minimum standards for living conditions. These attorneys help tenants who are living in unsafe or unsanitary environments hold landlords accountable for maintaining habitable living spaces.

Uninhabitable environments include issues with:

  • Mold
  • Pest infestations
  • Structural damage
  • Faulty plumbing
  • Fire safety violations
  • Lack of heat or air conditioning

Habitability law typically involves legal actions where tenants can demand repairs, withhold rent, move out without penalty, or seek compensation for damages. If you know anyone living in harsh conditions, don’t let them suffer in silence. Encourage them to learn their rights under habitability law and get the help they deserve!
