Newsletter

As we begin to wrap up a spectacular 2025, the CD Law team couldn’t be more excited about the incredible growth we’ve experienced over the past 12 months, and we can’t think of a better way to close out the year than by welcoming a new member to our firm.

We’re thrilled to introduce Betzy Portillo, our newest Associate Attorney in the Habitability Department! Betzy Portillo
Betzy Portillo is a first-generation attorney and the daughter of Salvadoran immigrants, dedicated to advancing justice for vulnerable families and underserved communities. She brings a compassionate yet assertive legal approach, grounded in her belief that every client deserves safety, dignity, and a voice within the legal system.

Betzy earned dual Bachelor of Arts degrees in Criminology, Law & Society and Political Science from the University of California, Irvine, where she developed a deep commitment to equity and public service. She went on to obtain her Juris Doctor from Southwestern Law School, where she strengthened her courtroom readiness through hands-on legal training and advocacy-focused internships.

Prior to joining CD Law, Betzy served with the Children’s Law Center of Los Angeles, representing children impacted by abuse or neglect and advocating for their safety, stability, and well-being in dependency proceedings. In this role, she managed a high-volume caseload, appeared regularly in court, collaborated with multidisciplinary teams, and worked directly with youth navigating trauma and displacement. Before becoming an attorney, Betzy also worked in victim services at the Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office, supporting survivors of human trafficking and helping connect them with essential legal, housing, and therapeutic resources.

Today, Betzy brings her background in child advocacy, victim support, and trauma-informed legal practice to the Habitability Department at CD Law, where she fights to protect tenants from unsafe living conditions and hold negligent landlords accountable. She is fluent in Spanish and committed to empowering families, elevating community voices, and pursuing meaningful justice for those facing housing insecurity.

Outside of her legal work, Betzy enjoys spending time with her family, exploring new food spots across Los Angeles, and celebrating her cultural roots.

We’re proud to welcome Betzy to the CD Law family, and we can’t wait to see the great things she’ll accomplish for our clients and communities!
