CD Law co-founder Vineet Dubey was recently featured on both the I Am The Law podcast and Care More Be Better, where he breaks down the growing crisis of toxic chemicals in everyday products and how litigation is driving real change.
In I Am The Law, Vineet shares what first drew him to the legal profession.
Growing up in Mississippi, he witnessed firsthand how the legal system helped transform communities following Brown v. Board of Education. That realization: that real, lasting change happens through the courts.
While his focus is now environmental and consumer protection law, the mission remains the same: ensuring fairness, accountability, and equal protection under the law, especially for communities most affected by harmful practices.
Across both conversations, one message is clear: toxic chemicals are far more common than most people realize.
From baby food to cosmetics, textiles, and household goods, substances like lead, cadmium, phthalates, and PFAS (“forever chemicals”) can make their way into products used every day.
As discussed in Care More Be Better, PFAS are particularly concerning. These chemicals are engineered to last, sometimes for decades, which makes them effective in products like non-stick cookware or waterproof fabrics, but dangerous once they enter the human body or environment.
Vineet also provides a behind-the-scenes look at how these cases are built.
Through laws like California’s Proposition 65, companies are required to warn consumers if products contain chemicals known to cause cancer or reproductive harm. But as he explains, the system often relies on enforcement through litigation.
Cases typically begin with product testing, followed by scientific analysis from toxicologists, and ultimately legal action if violations are confirmed. In many instances, companies are given the opportunity to fix the issue either by adding warnings or removing harmful chemicals altogether.
But one of the most striking takeaways: regulation alone is often not enough.
At the center of both conversations is a simple truth: accountability drives change.
Through litigation, Vineet and his team have helped:
Increase transparency so consumers can make informed decisions
While systemic change is critical, both conversations emphasize that individuals also have power.
Simple steps like choosing glass over plastic, avoiding non-stick cookware, shopping local, and paying attention to product sourcing can help reduce exposure.
These conversations reinforce what we believe at CD Law, safer products don’t happen by chance they happen through pressure and accountability.
Whether it’s through the courtroom, legislation, or consumer awareness, meaningful change requires action at every level.
We’re proud to see Vineet leading these discussions and continuing to fight for safer communities not just in theory, but in practice.
